Late- Night Confusion
Confusion is a state of mind
And to state my mind would be trouble
To be your friend is better than nothing
But to be your girl was so much better
I think my heart is trying to heal
But my body won’t seem to let it
Nights are lonely stretches of desert
And your voice is an oasis
Where do I go from here
Where do I tuck these thoughts and feelings away?
So that I can be the strong woman you adore
And, a productive member of society.
I’ll tuck them away in a drawer somewhere
Marked “private” or “For your eyes only”
I’ll leave them there til the day is done
And late at night, when the world sleeps
I’ll take them out, read them aloud
And hold them close
Along with the memories of your love.
